Dr. Meeks considers Washington State his home. Having grown up in a military family, they finally settled down in Tacoma in 1976. He completed high school and then went on to Concordia College in Portland, Oregon where he received a scholarship to play soccer. He realized after his first year that he wasn’t ready for the rigors of academia. Dr. Meeks decided to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy which he proudly served for 6 years reaching the rank of STG1(SW), earning several commendations and serving in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Upon completion of his military service, Dr. Meeks went back to school and completed his undergraduate education at Eastern Washington University with honors by earning dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry (Cum Laude). He then attended medical school at Des Moines University earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
Dr. Meeks then completed four years of General Surgery residency before transferring into a two-year Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Plastic Surgery is a branch of surgery that is quite unique to medicine. Its quintessential character is the symphony of meticulous surgical technique and artful expression that collaborate to create excellence in surgical outcome. He is strongly drawn to the complexity and vast variety of plastic surgery cases. The challenge of taking normal and enhancing it to a supernormal state, or to take a severely injured or disfigured individual and restoring that person to near-normal functioning state is fascinating. Dr. Meeks is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgeons as of October 2010.
Although he lived outside the state of Washington during his medical training, he decided to return for several reasons; family, outdoor beauty, recreational opportunity and autonomy in his practice. The unique practice setup allows him the flexibility to do as his heart wishes. Dr. Meeks is married to his lovely wife Emily with whom they have four energetic children with whom he tries to spend as much time as possible. His two sons, Stephen and TJ, have special needs which put an emphasis on community involvement and raising awareness. His two daughters, Madison and Alexa, keep him very grounded with their activities.
